Greetings,
Festive fun is certainly in the air as we approach the final week before Christmas. At this time of year there are Christmas Parties a plenty and I do enjoy a party. I am getting far too old for it and my liver was left squealing for mercy after the staff party on Sunday.
I have never had the pleasure of a night out in Blantyre before, so I was unaware of the fun that I was about to take part in. I like dancing as much as I like stapling my eyelids together, so to be dragged up for a quick slosh left me a broken man. I think my dislike of dancing is due to me being taller than the average Christmas Tree and the constant worry that I could take someone out with my flailing arms.
The highlight of the evening was 'Brian Boland' our head greenskeeper treating us to a John Travolta like performance all night long. This man has got rhythm!
The Unsung Heroes of East Kilbride Golf Club
A question asked at all golf clubs is "What do the council do?". I have been a member and a professional at a few clubs and I often find myself letting members know what the council actually do. I think it's sometimes difficult for people to appreciate what they do unless they too have been on a committee or council themselves. So because of the wonders of modern communication (my newsletter), let me enlighten you this week with a council member who has gone above and beyond his duties.
Mr Tom Keir (House Convenor)
Tom looks after everything relating to the clubhouse, from managing the catering services to the cleaners. Sounds simple but I can assure you it is not. Just 2 weeks ago I caught Tom on the roof of the clubhouse. Not ready to jump, but cleaning leaves out the blocked gutters on a freezing cold day.
With the recent storms we found ourselves at the mercy of power cuts and these things trigger our alarm systems. Guess who gets called out at 2am twice in a matter of days to make sure the place is secure? Yep you guessed it, Tom! We also experienced a power surge which triggered a safety cut off from within the Kitchens electricity network. Tom being a qualified electrician has had to come up every single day for the last 2 weeks to manually switch the kitchens power on each day until a new part can be sourced.
These are just a few of Tom's recent duties as our
'House Convenor' and I think that you will all agree that he has helped the club out in its hours of need. Sometimes there is a lot that we don't see behind the scenes at our golf club and it's people like Tom that help us keep going.

Kids Christmas Party
The kids Christmas Party was a huge success again as Santa made his way through the frost to make all the kids smile. The party was fantastic as all the kids had a great time. This day is such a popular day in the clubs calendar and a big thank you must go to Laura our bar manager who organised the day. Also a big thank you to all the volunteers on the day,
Anne Roulston, Janice Sharp and of course Santa
Wilson!!
Logan and
Harris Bell enjoyed it immensely as they danced and munched their way through numerous cheese puffs and Haribo! This lethal combination proved disastrous for
Hilary as the shear sugar high the boys experienced made it impossible for them to sleep. I was unavailable for comment on this due to me being out for the Golf Club Christmas Party. I have been warned not to fall into this diary mishap next year!
Merry Christmas to you all and thank you all for your support in 2015! Here's to a great 2016!!!
Best Wishes,
Graeme, Kieran & Ian
