Wind is something we all have to put up with, some experience a little but others have unbelievable wind.
This week we have had wind on a ridiculous scale. So much so I nearly called my dog "Toto" and bought a pair of ruby slippers. Houses were shaking, trees were ripped up from their roots and the club flag was ripped off the flag post. It was last seen hurtling towards the stratosphere and will no doubt be brought down by Vladimir Putin.
I won't be 'Russian' to get it back from him...!
Anyway, this wind will hopefully dry out the wet parts of the course as the week goes on. I know I harp on about how well the course is holding out with all the bad weather but it's really is. Everyone is looking for value for money when dealing with anything these days and you may think I am slightly biased when voicing my opinion on the club I work at. But when I applied for the job here I created a business plan for my interview and I did a comprehensive analysis on our club and all the clubs in the area. This allowed me to quickly understand why East Kilbride Golf Club is such a good proposition for golfers and heres just a little run down about why we are such a good choice:
- We have one of the best draining golf courses in the area and this is crucial because of the amount of rain we are getting. In recent years we have had the foresight to invest large amounts of money in drainage. This allows us to provide you with more golf throughout the year.
- Our greens have virtually no thatch in their organic make up. Thatch is a built up organic matter which acts like a sponge and makes drainage of water very difficult. It also makes the greens more prone to disease. This has come about not by chance but through extensive aeration over the years. This allows the greens team to only use very small aeration holes to aerate the greens throughout the season, thus limiting the impact on the putting surfaces. Many courses do not have this luxury and have months of disruption.
- We are improving our practice facility with the introduction of a better surface area to hit from and by positioning yardage markers on the range to give you accurate information when you practice. We are also building a new bunker at the chipping area to give you a more realistic practice experience.
- We have a Professional Shop with all of Golfs leading brands. We coach, custom fit with radar, build clubs, alter clubs, repair and service trolleys. We provide you with a solution to al your golfing requirements.
- The lifeblood of a golf club is our Juniors and we have the most talented Junior Section in the county who have swept the board in recent years. Not only are the talented but great group of young men and women who make each and every new Junior welcome. This is hugely important and where we surpass any other club in the area.
- We are a busy club who offers a comprehensive range of competitions for all our membership categories throughout the year.
- The club has numerous members who give up their spare time to assist in the running and management of the club for free
- We have a modern clubhouse which is very comfortable and attractive for our members and guest alike. With it being so modern, it is a wonderful place to invite friends and family up to, even if they are not golfers. It also does not require the same high level of upkeep as an older one, thus allowing us to spend money on other aspects of the club.
- We have great social aspect to the club with many different members' events and functions run throughout the year. We hold Easter and Christmas parties for member's children at no extra charge. These days in particular are amazing and bring the club together as a whole.
- Our staff are very welcoming and will go that extra mile to make you and your guests feel welcome.

The TaylorMade M2 Range Has Landed
The M2 range has landed here at East Kilbride Golf Club and it is already proving a big hit with the members. Please do not think that the M2 is replacing the M1, it is not. It is sitting alongside it but at a lower price point. It is replacing the AeroBurner which believe it or not has been out for well over a year. TaylorMade are not bringing out loads of drivers every few months anymore, and that is better for me and the consumer. TaylorMade still lead the way in product development and the M2 range includes drivers fairways, rescues and irons.
If your clubs are not giving you the results that you would like then pay me a visit and see if the M2 range will give you the boost you need.

Sad Sad News
The legend who has guided me through my first year at East Kilbride GC is leaving the shop. Yes as much it pains me, I have to let you know that young Kieran is departing for pastures new. He has been given the wonderful opportunity of an apprenticeship with Stein Electrical. Kieran is without doubt one of the nicest people I have ever worked with. His kind nature is something that can't be taught and something that makes him so popular with all of the members. He has come a long way since I first inducted him into the Bell Golfing Stable and I hope I have helped him in his early career development. He has been like a wee brother (I know I am old enough to be his dad) to me and I will really miss him working with me.
Kieran, thank you for all your help and good luck in your new career.
P.S. here are some tips
A bad wire can cause a fire.
A faulty wire can be dire.
A fire today - no job tomorrow.
A harness is better than a hearse.
