Sun-a-rise early in the morning, yes it blinking well did on Wednesday and the hallowed turf of EKGC was bouncing. We were on 18 summer greens and the smiles were the order of the day. Either golf was making you all happy or Superdrug had a 2 for 1 on Prozac. No matter what, it was good to see everyone golfing again.
We had a live press conference in the carpark on Wednesday afternoon, where I unveiled my latest signing.
We had to keep it quiet because of other interest from other clubs and the fact he hadn't completed his medical. Harry Redknapp was also spotted at the practice area with a brown envelope bursting with notes, but not even that cunning cockney could steal my big name signing.
So I have the great pleasure in announcing that young 'Stuart Holden' will be my next apprentice at the club and I am thrilled that he has signed a 3 year deal with the biggest club in East Kilbride.

The new PING, TaylorMade, Mizuno and Srixon Ranges Available for Fitting Now
We have the full complement of fitting equipment and demo clubs from TaylorMade, PING, Mizuno and Srixon but you know what, so do many places. I cannot sit here and say that I am the only one to have a good selection of clubs, but please read my piece below which will hopefully make you think twice about your next set of clubs:
I love fitting golf clubs to people and I have done this for many years. I have used ball tracking devices to fit golf clubs for 10 years, way more than any of my competitors. Only in recent years professionals have decided to buy such devices.
Why did they leave it so late?
I honestly don't know to be honest but this has given me a head start in gathering data and patterns when it comes to fitting. To fit you must understand how different parts of a golf club can change a player's ball flight. What is written about a shaft, head or grip is so generic and in many occasions does the complete opposite for a player. So you need someone to help you, not sell you a golf club.
A well fitted golf club is something that is hard to come by and I believe that I give you that certainty. What I also guarantee is not to sell you something for the sake of selling you it. If it does not improve you then we both look silly. When someone fits you in a high street store or range, these principles are not often followed.
Here's something else you should consider.
When fitting clubs are supplied to professional shops and other establishments, they are stamped with lie angle, shaft stiffness, weight etc. So you can imagine a joiner being supplied with wood which was stamped with measurements relating to it. Would the joiner just take the word of the supplier that the wood is that length or would he measure it. I would say he would measure it before building something with it. If not his structure could not fit the purpose and be rendered useless. You would therefore think that a professional would measure all his demo clubs and fitting clubs to make sure they were right! WRONG, THEY DON'T.
So when they are fitting you using a club that says it's 2 degrees flat, stiff flex, standard length, it might not be 2 degrees flat, it may be shorter than standard and it may not be stiff! You then get your clubs built to the totally wrong spec and the fitting is a complete waste of time!
We check the build of our fitting clubs and make sure they are bang on before fitting with them. We then check the build of the clubs that are delivered by the manufacturer so they are perfect for you.
How do we do it?
Well we use our vast array of club building equipment including the following:
- loft and lie machine
- frequency analyser (shaft stiffness measurer)
- swing weight machine
If you are being fitted for clubs by someone who does not have these then it is like asking a joiner to build you an extension without a tape measure. It's not going to be a good job! When you think about it in this way, it is an absolute must for a professional to have professional equipment. Don't be fooled by flashing lights, discounts and TV adverts, just demand the right procedures to be followed. It's not rocket science!
These things happen on tour for the world's superstars and it is even more important for you!
