Greetings,
The Masters is over but the golfing buzz is still very much in the air! The course is packed as I write this, even although it's course maintenance week.
So Bubba did it again, he smashed his way round the course and left the others wanting. Young Jordan Speith was my tip and he nearly did me proud. My £5 each way bet at 50-1 was looking very good until he had a little lapse in concentration mid round. Bubba bullied his way to the end as he hit the ball constantly 50 yards passed Speith, who is not considered short by any means. It really does reinforce the fact that at the top level, hitting the ball a long distance is such an advantage. Stats that have been released in the last 6 months, shows that for these guys, the long game is actually more important than the short game!
MASTERS SWEEPSTAKE
The Pro Shop Masters Sweepstake was again a huge success with Alan Mitchell gaining 1st price of £100 shop credit. Joint second was Bruce Telford and Jackie MacFadyen who both get £45 shop credit. Well done guys and thank you to all who supported the sweepstake. We will be doing one for all the Majors this year and the Ryder Cup.
THE APPRENTICE IS SETTLING IN WELL
Cameron has settled in very well indeed and has become accustomed to my grim chat and outrageous jokes. He is enjoying his role here at Linlithgow and I'm sure he is going to bring a lot to the shop and to the golf club in general. If you have still yet to meet my new apprentice, then please just pop by the shop and say hi.
A SIMPLE WAY TO CONTROL THE CURVE OF YOUR SHOTS
Many players struggle to control the curve of the ball when playing golf and I have spent many years finding simple solutions to change the path of the golf club to help this. What you must understand is that where the club face points at impact will start the golf ball on its initial direction and the difference between the club face and the club path will make the ball curve (assuming centered contact). So right hand slicers have a club path that is to the left and drawers of the ball have a path to the right. Here is a quick video that will help you change your club path and therefore change your shot shape.
COMPETITON RESULTS
The weekend saw the John Barrett Better-Ball competition take place and as it is a better format so at least it gave everyone the chance to blame someday else for not winning! Only joking, camaraderie was the toast of the day and the bothers Bennie scooped the first place with a great score of 63. Patrick and Donald just pipped Danny McGowan and Graham Sinclair into second with a better inward half. Third place was occupied by the dynamic duo of Ian Campbell and Wille Hogan.
