 Greetings golfers,

 Pros news

Another medal has passed with no cancelation and you would be forgiven for thinking that you could dust off the Soltan Factor 20. Put it back in the cabinet as we had a frost delay, yes a frost delay. Unblinking-believable stuff, but we overcame this and everyone got out to play.

The course was playing tough as the standard scratch went to 72, but we had some talented players out there as usual. One of those talented players (Douglas Woodhouse - No not any of his children- Douglas) had his equipment checked last week and we found his grips to be in desperate need of repair. As I have explained in previous newsletters, having good grip on your clubs makes it easier to gain control of the club face and to generate speed in the swing. Douglas won his 2nd class section, and within one round has paid for most of his grips. He is a great accountant and obviously knows a good investment when he sees it.

There was a reasonably important football match on at the weekend but I won't talk about that.

John Friel Nearly Bags Two Aces

I have to apologise to John Friel for his omission from the 'Hole in One Gallery' from last week.

John aced the 3rd, and then was only a matter of inches from another one at the 8th.

That would have been one very expensive day and a belter of a sore head the next day.

I think I have got the correct holes John!

Tour news

A Man With Huge Beard And Belly Wins On The European Tour

Valderrama could be considered the best course in Europe and one of the best in the world. It showed its teeth more than Shergar in one of his holiday snaps. Tour Pros were not very happy at all, and for only the second time in history was a European Tour event won on an over par total. It gives us all hope, and even more than that was the fact it was won by an overweight chap with a huge beard. But always remember that these guys have practiced for years and years and years. They have made many sacrifices along the way because as we all know "you make your own luck in this world".

Sweepstake

The Masters Sweepstake Results

I am very sorry for the delay in getting these to you, but my wonderful new assistant took his notebook on holiday to The Masters. In this red leather clad book he had all the members with their respective tour players. Everyone basically had a lucky dip to see who they got in the competition, and I did get a fair bit of abuse from certain members when they got some somewhat unknown players or ones that they felt didn't quite give them a chance.

A certain Steve McFadyen did give out a disgruntled groan when he pulled out a certain 'Danny Willett'. I'm sure Steve gave out another slightly more passionate groan come Sunday evening when he realised that 'Danny Boy' had scooped him 1st prize in the pros sweep.

I would just like to thank you all again for supporting me again with the prize draw. So here are the winners and their prizes:

1st - Steve McFadyen - Danny Willett : FootJoy FreeStyle Golf Shoes & Masters Golf Towel-Straight From Augusta

2nd Equal -
David Aitken - Jordan Spieth - FootJoy Polo Shirt & Dozen Srixon Balls,
John Keery - Lee Westwood FootJoy Polo Shirt & Dozen Srixon Balls

Previously I said that it had to be selected shoes in our range that I would give you a trade in on, well do you know what, I'm going to let you trade in your old moccasins for money off any pair in stock.

This will only be for a week, and I will be strict on that aspect! So get up into the attic, crawl into the cellar, dive into that garden shed and pull out some of the oldest shoes you can find, and I will give you cash off your new shoes.

We've got some crackers from FootJoy and adidas in-store so pop in and pay us a visit.

Pitchmarks on The Greens

A problem which rears its ugly head year after year after year at all golf clubs. It's sad, but true, and it is happening right here at East Kilbride Golf Club. Many people blame visitors, but I'm afraid it is our own members who are not repairing them.

How do we solve this problem?
Well the first thing we can do is:

1. Make sure you have a good pitchfork to reapir the marks
2. Observe your playing partners and see if they are actually repairing theirs. If not, then educate them about the importance of doing it
3. Try and repair 2 or 3 on each green, no matter if they are not yours

If everyone repaired pitchmarks, we would all hole more putts...

If you are unsure about the best way to repair a pitchmark, please don't hesitate to chat to a member of the pro shop team. We would much rather teach you the best way than you just leaving them untouched.

Many thanks for your help with this matter.
