Greetings golfers,
2 weeks of shorts and t-shirts and doesn't it feel nice. My face is now the same colour as a fire engine but I don't care. Being able to walk out your front door without 3 layers on in May is truly a beautiful thing. Speaking of beautiful things...
The tee sheet is nearly completely full, and I have spoken to "Sean Batty" and he has assured me that it will be a lovely day.
We have a few surprises up our sleeves for the big day and you will not be disappointed!
The main aim of the day as usual is to enjoy your round of golf and to enjoy the wonderful social side afterwards. The social side to golf is something that there isn't enough of these days, and for Professionals Day we aim for this to be right up there with the golf!
Now please remember that you have to pay your entry for the competition by next Friday, 10 June.
Do you struggle to get it up off the fairway with your woods?
Our fairways at East Kilbride are very links like in their tightness of lie, and this can make your fairway woods very difficult to get airborne. Most of the players that I see are using 3 woods off of the fairway to gain more distance, and because of the tight lies they are faced with on fairways, the ball does not launch and the ball skitters along the fairway.
Ultimately you need launch to gain the most carry, and most of the time your 3 wood will only give you this when the ball is siting up on a fluffy lie or a tee.
Usually the golfer will question their own ability rather that questioning the fact "are they using the correct club?".
In this situation, using a club with more loft will aid launch and spin, thereby allowing you to flight the golf ball more efficiently. So try a 5 wood or even a 7 wood and you will have much better luck.
Understanding how the lie your ball has on certain ground conditions will make you a much better player.
Come and have a chat with us in the pro shop if you are struggling, or click here to get in touch.
We always have deals in the shop and with our wonderful sunny weather, we are giving you a unique opportunity to get your wonderful legs out. Some of your little white sticks haven't seen the light since last September, and they are crying out to be treated to some new display boxes.
By display boxes, I mean shorts of course and we have some little beauties from some top brands which are sure to make even the poorest of legs shine!
What's even better is that they are only £29.99, and when you buy a pair, you get £5 OFF any polo shirt in stock.
The Bells Head To St Andrews
East Kilbride is 21 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. The Bells head to St Andrews and all clouds in Europe congregate above our hotel. The closer we ventured to the sea, the more in need of a woolly hat I was.
No expense was spared as we checked into Lenny Henry's number 1 hotel choice, or as Logan called it "The Moon Hotel". The Premier Inn was lovely, but unfortunately our youngest "Harris" decided to hold an all night vigil in the name of insomnia. St Andrews is a great place, and one day I will get a full nights sleep on holiday.
Gents Team Tame Bothwell
The Gents Team bounced back from defeat against Lanark Golf Club with a great 7-3 victory against Bothwell at home. The sun was shining, but the wind it was a blowing. One of the Bothwell players drove the ball about 30 yards short of the 9th green.
The crowds were out in force watching our boys in blue tame our local rivals. It is very refreshing to see a team made up of both youth and experience and to see them interact so well with one another. We are certainly a modern club with modern values and great talent. Hopefully we can win all of our remaining matches and win the league. What a party that would be!
1 lesson = handicap reduction of 2
I think that most of you will be aware of my enthusiasm when it comes to my job, and how much of a golf geek I really am. I am a geek and have developed a system that allows me to identify the swing movement patterns of every golfer I see. This makes me coach more efficiently and allows you to play better quicker.
Recently I spent 30 minutes with one of our members who was really struggling with their game. I spent about 10 minutes of the lesson highlighting the most important aspects of golf which are:
- Low point control - where the club bottoms out in the golf swing
- Point of contact the ball has with the club face
Once he understood these, we showed him quickly how to improve these. Within minutes he was striking the ball better and hitting it cleaner with better dispersion. Within 2 rounds last week, his handicap was cut by 2 full shots.
Why? Well I made his swing more functional by making him aware of what was really important. It's not difficult if you get the right advice.
If you are interested inmaking improvements like this, come and have a chat with us in the pro shop, or click here to get in touch.
We look forward to helping you.
