Greetings golfers,
The Champion has been crowned, the music has stopped and the last cork has been popped. Saturday was a belter of a Championship Day and the conditions made it extremely tough for the players. We introduced another level of service this year with a pin position sheet for all players that outlined the pin positions for the day. Myself and young Stuart were pacing them out in monsoon conditions on Friday. It was smashing it down and windy.
With a first round score of 69, Kenny Gallagher was clear by 3 and he remained 1 clear at the end from ex Scottish Amateur Champion Craig Heap. King Kenny was crowned champion and in usual Kenny style, he made a wonderful speech and only swore once. Kenny without doubt is the hardest working golfer at the club and is always on the practice area. He will gladly tell you that if he didn't do this, he would not be anywhere near the golfer he is. A continuous drive to improve his golf is what keeps him plugging away over the winter and over his summer holidays (yes he's a teacher). His usual latte was replaced with prosecco, lager and brandy as he led myself and few other younger people astray for most of the evening.
As the Trophy was filled (eventually) the world famous DJ "CALVIN PARISH" took to the stage. That's my Sunday name don't you know. My tunes were an eclectic mix of chart topping hits and as I let the tunes set sail of the seas of dance. My DJ Box caused quite a stir but unfortunately my sound output was a little soft. I allowed many of you to put in some requests, most I may add were fine but some were not so. I was even caught out by a group who asked for a certain song by the Smiths. Its main chorus mad made up with the following:
"Hang The DJ, Hang The DJ"
Well done boys, well done
I hope you all enjoyed my little piece of entertainment as much as I did. I just wanted to give something back to you all who support me and the club. Let's make the party even better next year and you never know, Calvin may have some better speakers and tunes by then!
Logan's First Day Of School
This week was a very emotional day for the Bell family and one of stark realisation that I am indeed getting old. It was my first born Logan's first day at Carolside Primary School. The same school that big me went to 33 years ago. Yes, I'm 37 but I know I look much younger.
Logan at least had shorts to his knees whereas my mum had me dressed in blinking hot pants all those years ago.
Here is the little beauty looking smart on his big day!
Hole in one for one of the Woodhouse Clan
We are very lucky to have such golfing talent at the club as the Woodhouse family. Please don't worry as I am not including "Douglas" in that bracket. I will no doubt get a kick to the shin for that but what the heck.
John Woodhouse slam dunked the funk at the 17th hole last week for his first hole in one. Well, done John! For those of you brought up in the 80's and 90's, you may remember an actor called "Dolph Lundgren" who starred in a Rocky film and some kung fu gems. This I believe to be great lookalike for young John.
Google is your friend if you would like to check this out.
New Under Armour stock has arrived
Under Armour has been a real hit with you and I am glad to report that we have had another drop of Under Armour Wonderfulness.
We have the new Gore-Tex collection from them and I tell you what, it is so so good. If you have ever wanted a Gore-Tex suit then this is without doubt the suit for you. It is absolutely magnificent.
Pop into the shop and have a look and I promise you will not be disappointed. You will not find any of these suits online.
Practice Area I took a great video of players practicing on our new turf at the practice area and it was like a tour event. Yes, it's not the world's best area, but it is good and our set up gives us the best chances.
Click here to view our range in action.
Some players are still practicing in a selfish manner and hitting shots from the middle of the practice area and hitting balls towards the new hitting area. This is a very selfish way to practice when there are other players trying to practice. If there is none free then I can see why someone would do this, but if there are others wishing to practice then you do have to allow them to do this.
It is not one person's area to do what they like with but a facility for all of members to benefit from, hence the changes we have made.
Please practice in a way that allows as many people to practice as possible.
Help Me Find My Balls This year I invested in Srixon yellow practice balls to allow me to distinguish my balls from members. This helps me get out of your way quicker and for me to leave mine whilst I go and bring down another lesson. Unfortunately people have been picking my smashing yellow balls and putting them into their practice bags. Please could you all keep an eye out for my balls and help me get them back to where they belong.
Pardon the expression but here is a picture of my balls for you to look at.
