Greetings golfers,
Hopefully all of you will be celebrating a week without rain, a milestone in any Scottish person's life. I'm sure the rain is not far away, but it has given the course a little break.
I know I harp on about us being the best draining course in the area but we definitely are. This is indeed something to shout about. We are in the process of trying to guide players around the course by means of roping off certain areas and we will be monitoring these areas weekly. We really need to keep on top of these areas so we can give you a better course to play in the coming months. Part of the responsibility is ours and part is yours, it really is a team effort.
Unfortunately we have already had reports of members lifting the ropes and taking trolleys near the greens. We all need to work together to look after the course, from pitchmarks to divots to where you take your trolley.
It has been great to see so many of you pop in to enquire about winter wheels. You can get a complete set of 2 winter wheels for your trolley, or you can purchase the wheel covers that fit over your current trolley wheels. These are the cheapest way to make sure your trolley doesn't do excessive damage to the course.
The wheel covers take around 20 mins to fit and I am doing this for FREE to help the cause. The wheel covers come in all different sizes and are priced at £30.
The complete set of 2 winter wheels that you replace your current wheels with are around £65. Whichever you need, I will be on hand to assist with.
Tiger has the demons
It really breaks my heart to see Tiger pull out of his comeback tournament. I know he has been a bad boy in the past but he is a huge catalyst for golf, just like Jack and the late Arnold. He is the only golfer that really has got me excited as he was the only one that put the fear into his opponents. He had this amazing aura surrounding him, a gift, a god like persona and something that I thought would never leave him.
This week with his withdrawal from this tournament unfortunately signals to me that he is "Mortal" and just like you and me, he is facing the golfing demons. I think he is scared to get back in the saddle because he just isn't sure that he can do it anymore.
A guy that has won so many tournaments, broke so many records and shot so far under par thinks it's beyond him. It is so sad for golf, but at the same time it lets us all know that no matter your ability the mental side can take down the mightiest of warriors.
Hopefully his sword will be sharp for his next battle.
LONG LIVE THE KING
Marc Warren digs deep and finds treasure
We have all had pressure putts to win a match, break our handicaps or get a pound off the sweep, but nobody can ever tell you how it feels to be on the brink of losing your Tour Card. Couple that with the media spotlight on you day and night reminding you about it. I don't really know Marc but I was thrilled for him to do so well in the Dunhill Links Championship. I always look for his results just like many of you, and it is great to see an ex-member of the club do so well.
I know his relationship with the club has been a little bit rocky in the past, but you can't take the fact away that this course and club were a major influence on his game and progression.
Well, done Marc.
My playing partner did well didn't he
It was just last week I was telling you to watch out for my playing partner in the "Dunhill Links Pro Am" and as Bruce would say "Didn't he do well".
Alan Stanton and his South African Pro finished 3rd in the overall competition with an outrageous 35 under par total. The lager I helped him consume last Monday and my uncanny wit must have dazzled the man into a hypnotic state of wonderful golf.
The funniest bit of commentary was when Dougie Donnelly said "I can't understand it, the pro has shot 77 today but the team score for the round is 64, what the heck".
This I think was somewhat insinuating that young Stanton's handicap was too high. I can however throw these claims out of court as I played with him on Monday when he had two 5 putts, a 4 putt and a few lost balls.
We definitely did not shoot a combined 64.
Get your shoes ready for winter
This is the time to prepare your feet for the colder a wetter conditions by making sure your shoes are fit for purpose. We are offering you a FREE MOT of your shoes and a FREE cleaning of your shoes when you get them re-studded.
Now don't think for a second that I would just replace everyone's studs willy nilly. No not I, just ask the clubs favourite son Tommy Roberston who brought in his shoes to be re-studded. I told him that he needed only 4 studs. I did have to first of all remove the half field of grass that Tommy had collected on the soles for his size 8's before I could make my diagnosis. I saved Tommy a few pounds which he was delighted with, so maybe a pint for me next time I see him...
I have included a before and after picture of a customer's shoes who popped them in for studding (these are not Tommy's). The shoe on the left was almost browny green, but now by the power of Welshy, they are back to black.

It's the end of the season as we know it, and I feel fine.
