Greetings,

It has been great to be at the helm of the Golfship Enterprise where in 2017 we will be going where no man or woman has gone before. We will be searching the galaxy for the best golfing technology and the best value items around. We will cling-on to every single development in the golfing world and show you golf but not as you know it. I may even try and find some better chat also.

Pros news

Fitter, Healthier, More Productive

For those who are fans of the band "Radiohead" you will recognise the above headline from one of their songs from the mid 90's. With my months of fitness I plan to create a body time machine where I will transport my body back to 1996 and to 14 stone and youthful skin. In the last week I have covered a mere 15 miles but I pulled out a trump card when I introduced the "Nutri-Blender" into my life. I have been blending fruit, nuts, oats and berries and it has cleansed my 6ft 4 frame. I feel wonderful and have definitely dropped a dress size already.

New Product Testing

I have been fitting a number of people to the new range of Titleist, TaylorMade and PING products and many have found a real improvement in their numbers. I think that it is worth noting that it is not just a numbers game but more of a fitting game in my opinion. The R&A put strict limits on club technology and for good reasons to, so there is only so far companies can go.

This makes them up their game in marketing more than actually the product to be honest. To say something is so much better than the product form the year before is really not honest in my opinion. I would say that the biggest difference is making sure you have the correct build of club. To make a club work for you the individual then you have to get the following correct:

  • Club Length
  • Club Loft
  • Club Lie Angle
  • Club Headsize
  • Centre Of Gravity Position
  • Club Face Depth
  • Shaft Weight
  • Shaft Flex
  • Shaft Kickpoint
  • Swing Weight
  • Grip Weight
  • Grip Size

One thing you should never do is go over to American Golf at Playsport to get fitted.

Why? Well, the biggest reason is that the golf balls you are fitted with have very few dimples and are actually second hand range balls from their sister range in Edinburgh. They do not fly correctly and you are simply wasting your time and money.

The fitters are also driven on sales and have limited experience. I'm not being harsh but just honest. Ask yourself the questions "Would you go to get a procedure done by a surgeon who was driven in the amount of surgery they do?" "Would you trust them?" I have been in this business a long time and have sent people home with no clubs more than I have sold them. Simply because it was the right thing to do!
