Greetings,

Pros news

This week there are two historic changes at East Kilbride Golf Club. The first being our new constitution which was successfully passed at our AGM on Friday. This new constitution has many new exciting elements to it and one of these is that for the first time ever all members regardless of their membership category will get the extension of voting rights to those Adult Members in the sub-categories of 5 Day, Senior and Youth Members on club matters. This is such a progressive step for us as a club and will allow us to engage with every one of our supporters. It is very different days now at all golf clubs and it is important to embrace change and allow everyone to have their say on matters.

The second historic change is that building work on our new 'Golf Lab' has started. This bespoke building is a first for the area and will allow East Kilbride Golf Club to cement its position as the most progressive in the area. There has been such great feedback about our new joint venture and I am very proud to be helping develop our club in this way. The club are investing in the building and I am investing a substantial amount of money in the internal fit out of the room and on equipment. I am also paying the club rent on the building throughout the year.

The most popular question I have had about the lab is "How can it benefit the members?" For those of you who came to my presentation on the lab, you will know the benefits that it will bring and for those of you who would like this question answered then please visit the member's area of the club website where you can see the presentation in full.

One benefit which I didn't get to cover in my presentation was regarding our members who either through age or through ill heath don't get to play golf. These members sometimes cannot play 18 holes and would love the chance to play golf but can't physically get round the course. The golf lab would allow a golfer like this the chance to play 18 virtual holes of golf without having to walk or buggy their way round the course. This would be an absolute dream for this type of golfer and a way we can keep these members engaged with the club more.

Here is a little video of how this sort of project has worked at another club. Click here to watch.

Junior golf

The Progression of Junior Golf at East Kilbride Golf Club

Many years ago I was a junior golfer and back then it wasn't easy being a junior. Junior golf did not get the support it does now and I am so glad in this modern age that we try so hard to encourage young golfers through into the sport. On Sunday I was present at our Junior AGM and it was great to see so many young faces eager to make an impact on their own golf game.

This year we will be running another 'Golfphin Junior Flag Event.' This will be one of 8 Flag events which will culminate into a final event at 'Trump Turnberry.' This event will take place on Sunday, 30 April at East Kilbride Golf Club and is open to juniors with or without a handicap. You can enter online at www.juniorflagchallenge.co.uk.

The New Iron Range from TaylorMade

TaylorMade this year are going forward with a new lease of life and new owners on the horizon. They have listened to a lot of negative feedback on all aspects of their business in previous years and have really come up trumps for 2017. The new iron range is without the smokey finish from the past and is back with a cleaner sleek metal finish. The Iron range consists of the M1, M2, P770 and P750.

We have all the custom options available for fitting and we are the only place that you should be fitted. We give honest and no biased feedback on every fitting we carry out. Our mantra is to make you better and not just sell you clubs. Click here if you would like to request a fitting.

Re-Grip Offer

This time of year is an ideal time to assess your grips and see if they need replaced. We are going to run another promotion for the next 4 weeks which I think will be a huge hit!

Take a look at your grips, you may feel they are ok but if you compare them to a new grip you will be surprised at the difference. Even though they may not look worn, grips get harder and a bit shiny over time, the consequence is that you start gripping the club harder which leads to poor shots and higher scores.
