Greetings,

Pros news

They seek him here they seek him there, they seek that golf pro everywhere. The season is well under way and the pro is in high demand. Be it fittings, lessons or stripping! Yes I said stripping, I was stripping all week for my wife and it was exhausting. I was also steaming whilst stripping which helped a lot.

I don't know if you've ever done home improvements but it is horrid. The respect I have for decorators is huge now as it was extremely demanding but my wife is over the moon and my brownie point jar is overflowing. One thing about Brownie Points is that they seem to evaporate quickly from the jar, so use them fast!

Course news

Keep Your Course in Good Condition

It's been very disappointing to hear of the course not being repaired by our members over the last few weeks. Now I am not tarring everyone with the same brush but I feel that I must highlight what is being reported and to be honest what I am seeing with my own eyes. Bunkers are not being raked, plug marks are not being repaired and divots are not been replaced. We have had very little visitors of late, so it is not them I'm afraid!

Everyone makes plug marks unless you are putting onto the green especially at this time of year. You should be repairing a mark on nearly every green, so ask yourself the question, are you? Ask yourself another question, are your playing partners? If the answer is no, then do something about it and change your ways. It will benefit everyone and it will assist you in breaking that handicap, getting that two and having a course that you can be proud of.

I have also watched many players not repair any of their divots or plug marks on our chipping greens which really makes me sad. In the coming weeks we will have a practice ground protocol which will hopefully educate and stop players from neglecting this area. We are all wanting our facility to be at its best but it will only be this if we all look after it!

Another issue that has occurred is that many coffee cups have been discarded on the short-game area and between the 1st and 2nd holes. These are paper cups that can be easily put into your bag until you find a bin, so please treat the course as you would treat your own garden etc.

Junior golf

Our Easter Junior Coaching Week

What a week of fun we have had and all the kids including me had a blast! The first part of the week was made up of the pro shop team educating the Juniors about replacing divots, raking bunkers and repairing plug marks. We gave them all a free pitchfork and showed them exactly how to repair plug marks. We showed them how to rake a bunker and how to either replace a divot or fill it with sand/seed. They all know the importance of this and how to behave on a golf course and this will allow us to continue to produce not only the best players but also the most courteous players in the area. Our Juniors are a great advert for us all here at East Kilbride!

Our Juniors did get lots of education as well as fun drills and games over the week, so it was well spent. They dealt well with the freezing wind and me being very un-cool as I'm now officially old according to them. I did learn to "Dab" though but that couldn't even help me. A "Dab" for anyone older than myself is a kind of celebration where ones head is positioned into ones right elbow as the left arm extends to the heavens. Have a look at the photos and see if you get me!

Studio news

The Golf Performance Lab

The roof is going on as we speak and things are moving on nicely. It really is so exciting thinking about how the room is going to look and how much you are all going to benefit from it.

Last week I and Stuart headed down to Leeds for training on our new system and it was amazing. This technology is absolutely outstanding and the data it gives is second to none. It is the most accurate system on the planet and it will assist everyone's game not just elite players. It is going to provide you with a practice solution that will be so beneficial to your game. One session in the lab using the system will be more productive than 10 sessions at the range. When I was using the system down at the training session it allowed me to custom fit a professional accurately in very little time. It highlighted that his strike was an issue and my knowledge combined with tech told me his clubs were too long and too flat in lie angle which resulted in his off-centred hits.

What also struck me down at the training was that my knowledge of club fitting is more advanced than what I originally had thought. This is not me being big headed I can assure you but rather an indication that my years of research and development have been worth it. This is another reason why I know that the Golf Performance Lab is going to be such a great addition to our club.

The Masters

Masters Sweepstake

It is finally here and it really does signal the start of the season. My tip is Justin Thomas and I will have a little flutter on him. Big Dustin is the favourite and he has always been my tip for the Masters in previous years but this year I'm staying well clear of him. Another possibility is an each way bet on Paul Casey. Casey doesn't have much charisma but he's being showing promise on the turf of late and someone who you will get decent odds on.

I sound as if I know what I am talking about but I can assure you that I know nothing! The Masters sweep was a complete sell out, so thank you to all who supported me. I really do appreciate when you support my raffles and promotions and this year one of you will be winning a custom fitted Titleist 917 Driver.

Competition results

Saturdays Competition

The weather was kind to us for most of Saturday and as usual the shop was bouncing with you all keen to get out there to do battle. It was fiercely contested with it resulting in a 3 way tie at the top with 46 points, we couldn't spirit them at all and the prize was divided up three ways. So here's the lucky 3 teams!

1st - A. Falconer & C. Mcue - 46pts (£30 each)
2nd - J Inglis & S Maclachan - 46pts (£30 each)
3rd - W Munro & S McFadyen - 46pts (£30 each)
