Greetings,
This week I am not greeting as the shop has not been broken into. Fantastic. Unfortunately for our local community, there have been reports that "Strathclyde Park Driving Range" were broken into. I can only imagine that it's the same lowlifes.
Enough of that negativity and let's get onto some positive stuff. The feedback this week regarding the course after the topdressing has been very encouraging and the greens are beginning to show good signs of growth and repair. This is resulting in much better surfaces which we really did need.
With the winter not being very cold all the nasty bacteria had perfect growing conditions and our greens developed patches of disease called "Fusarium." The aeration, top dressing and feeding of greens is absolutely essential regardless of course you play at and our program is the least aggressive in the area which will allow you to play on good greens more often.
Practice Net
Unfortunately we had to close the practice net last week but we have ordered a new net and baffle which will get us back up running in a few weeks. Please be patient with us as we want to provide you with the best possible practice net going forward.
Would you like your ball to end up in this during the next medal?
I am taking it upon myself to try and educate all our golfers on how and why you should look after your course. This may sound harsh but some of you reading this don't really care about the course and are completely neglecting it. They are not repairing plug marks, raking bunkers or replacing divots. Why? I honestly have no idea!
Take a look at where one our member's ball ended up during the medal on Saturday. As you can see they ended up in a honking great divot where no attempt had been made to replace it. Imagine you were on a score and then you ended up in this situation, how would you feel? Would you think it was fair? Would you love to meet the person that did it and give them a piece of your mind. Well all the good courteous golfers can help stop this by educating your playing partners and basically self-governing your course. This is the way that we can make our course the best it can be, so start now and don't accept this unacceptable behaviour anymore.
The Bells Go To St Andrews
Every woman, every man, join the caravan of love! Yes we ditched the comfort of a brick home and set up home in a caravan for 3 days in St Andrews. It was absolutely epic and was just what the doctor ordered after a stressful week.
The whole family visited the driving range and shots were hit. The weather was great and my wife was delighted that I had no Wi-Fi or phone reception which meant uninterrupted family time. Sometimes we all don't give our family enough of our time and get wrapped up in work too much and for 3 days I forgot about work.
Srixon Demo Day
A brand that is growing in popularity each year and without doubt now a main contender in the forged iron market. I have used their irons for two years now and they are mazing. Stuart and Welshy are now going to them and none of us get them for free, yip we all pay for them. Why because they are the easiest forged irons that are on the market. They employ some seriously advanced tech especially in their sole design which increases ball speed without degreasing the loft of the iron.
Srixon also own Cleveland and they produce an awesome range of wedges and are the only company to have a complete wedge fitting system. Titleist still don't offer this! So if you would like to come along to our fitting event on Wednesday, 26 April 2pm-6pm, meet the most knowledgeable golf rep on the planet for a fitting you will not forget then please contact me here. We only have a few appointments left, so act fast!
Easter Fun for the Kids
Our club really does go that extra yard for our members and many of you were up at the club on Monday for the Children's Easter Party. This year I was not the "Easter Bunny", maybe the 6ft 4 inch Rabbit gave the kids nightmares! But anyway, the kids seemed to love it and a big thanks to our fantastic staff who made it all possible. Laura puts on a great party for the kids every year with the help of Alana, Yvonne, Brianey and Kyle. Well done guys!
Battery Trade In Continues
The battery trade in has been a success again this year with many of you swapping your heavy lead acid trolley batteries for a nice light and super-efficient lithium one. To make the deal even sweeter, you are getting a £25 trade in value on your old battery and to be honest I will even take a remote control AA battery, I really don't care!
New Under Armour Junior Range of Clothing
We have just taken delivery of our fantastic range of junior clothing from Under Armour. This range is perfect for our junior golfers and is multifunctional as it can be worn to play other sports or even just as normal recreational wear. When I was a lad, which wasn't yesterday, we had golf specific clothes which I basically used to pray that none of my pals ever saw me in as I walked to and from the course. This clobber (young chat innit) is serious good and something that every junior would like to be seen in.
