Greetings,
What a day of fun we had at Professional's Day on Saturday. Click on the Pros Day 2014 image to see a video of the day.
The weather was immense, the course was amazing and the club was jumping. I just want to thank you all and your guests for supporting my Day and without this support I really don't know what I would do.
As most of you know, I love my job and being your Professional! When I hold Professionals Day, I want it to be the best day of the year at the club. To do this, we go the extra yard with everything and this year we added a couple of nice touches.
The live scoring had your scores beamed back to the clubhouse form the 5th and 13 tees. This made the pints after the game a bit more interesting as everyone got to see how they were fairing and who was setting the heather alight.
The Tournament Flags made the whole day seem more like a professional event and our very own 'Jim Simpson' decided to start a new craze of getting everyone to sign the 18th hole flag. Jim the invoice is in the post!
Green Keepers Revenge involved Grant our Course Manager selecting a horrifically difficult pin position at the last hole. He then rolled the green until it was like glass and this gave the whole event a real touch of theatre as we all watched on from the Clubhouse. We saw numerous players putt off the green and nearly snap their equipment in frustration, but the cheers and the banter from the clubhouse was something that we haven't witnessed in the clubhouse for a while. This is the sort of atmosphere that the club needs and something that we need to try and get back.
INCREDIBLE SCENES.
One thing that you don't see often is a player holing out a wedge shot at the last hole to the naughtiest pin position on the planet. Not only that but to win the competition for his team by one solitary shot.
This man was Oliver Wood-Clarke, who then proceeded to leave his wedge on the course and lose it. Thankfully it has now been handed in!
This holed wedge shot saw the 'Texas Rattlesnakes' (pictured here) win Professionals Day with a fabulous nett 53. The team was made up of the following talented young men.
- Gordon Lockhart
- Colin Brown
- Graeme Scott
- Oliver Wood-Clarke

RYDER CUP COMES TO LINLITHGOW
Many of you thought I was having one of my jokes but I would never joke about something as serious as this. The actual Ryder cup arrived here at Linlithgow and our weather system did not disappoint as usual. The rain thundered down as the Trophy made its way into our promised land of golf. The kids that were here for our club golf camp were bursting with excitement and not even this awful weather could dampen their spirits. Seeing the enthusiasm in all their faces reminded me of what it was like to be so excited about golf and has given me the nudge to get more into it again. It's great to see kids outside participating in sport opposed to siting in their houses glued to an Xbox or a Playstation.
