The Art of Club Fitting I love fitting clubs to players and do you know what “I’m good at it”. Why am I good at it? I have 15 years of experience and I do not just sell for the sake of it. We are very lucky here at EKGC to have such a great Golf Lab with such great equipment. I always try and think about what goes through players’ minds when they try and get fitted for clubs on a driving range in a hurricane using third rate golf balls. Think about it rationally as I talk about our local retail friends form the USA across the road. Here’s why getting fitted over there in this weather is not a great idea. • Their golf balls have no dimples and do not fly like a golf ball. • Their range mats are sub standard • Their experience is limited • They are sales driven not better golf driven • They use wet balls which gives inaccurate data • They do not check the build of the clubs they let you test - this basically means you’re not getting fitted to the correct clubs. • They will sell you what they are incentivised to sell
One of the biggest differences is that they will be tracking the ball in a howling wind and in the cold air. So if you want to buy a set of golf clubs to play in a 30mph wind off the right then this is exactly where you should go to get your clubs. I can also understand that some may see the advantage of a FREE custom fitting service that they offer. But ask yourself the question Does your golf really matter to them? I would say no but your money certainly does! The experience of their fitters is absolutely nowhere near the experience of our team here at East Kilbride Golf Club. I would leave you with an analogy Would you go for a medical procedure with an inexperienced non-professional consultant just because their consultation was free?
