Last weekend, we held the Silloth Competition at Linlithgow Golf Club and mother nature wasn't very friendly to us at all. We had rain of biblical proportions and everyone got absolutely soaked, even me and I was in the shop most of the time. A few of you thought the competition should have been abandoned and I can totally understand why due to some of the pictures I have seen. However, decisions have to be made and whether they be right or wrong we make them in the best interests of the members. The Silloth is not a profit making exercise but a Tournament that our members love playing in and this was evident by the number who played on in the pouring rain. I would just like to point out that this is the first competition this season that the weather has threatened. We are always trying our best and I personally would like to thank you all for your support and I will take onboard all of your feedback for future competitions.
Thank you to all of you who also supported me by placing bets at the 7th hole in the 'Beat The Pro' competition. Well done to all of you who skinned me and doubled their doe! Remember that you have a month to spend your winnings! Also a big thank you to Cameron who spent the whole two days outside in the hosing rain!

CROUCHING TIGER NAUGHTY DUSTIN
Two of golfs biggest stars withdrew from competition this week. One desperately needed some medicine and the other, well he definitely didn't need anymore.
Tiger's back went again during the Bridgestone Invitational and it really doesn't look good for him. Love him or hate him, Tiger is one of the main reasons golf has blossomed over the years and it really isn't the same without him. A major American Sports retailer actually used his demise in recent years as one of the main reasons why their profits were down. Rory is doing a great job but he isn't Tiger Woods and the game really needs him. Will he get picked for the Ryder Cup? To be honest I very much doubt he will. Sad but unless he miraculously recovers and shoots the lights out in the upcoming USPGA, then he like me will be watching it from his armchair.
Now what can I say about Dustin Johnston? He was one of my favourites and he is usually one of my tips for majors. I knew he had a bit of a wild past but I had no idea he was doing the things he was doing. The fact that he had been caught and suspended by the PGA Tour twice before makes it all the more worrying. It's worrying because they didn't even tell anyone and also because he really does sound as if he has a problem. If they have kept one secret then surely they must be more and no doubt we will hear of them in the future. I fully expect TaylorMade and adidas won't be renewing his staff contract and what a time for adidas to bring out the Dustin Johnston shoe range! Luckily for me I dropped adidas this year.
ANDREW RAMS IN A WIN
Andrew Ramsey is one of the most cheery chaps at the club and I can honestly say that I can't remember his winning a medal in the 6 years I have been here. This is not because he does not have talent because he has loads. Time has been the issue and he has been getting a good bit of practice in over the last few months. He won the second class division last week and now his smile will be seen from miles around. Well, done Andrew!!
DUN-CAN DO IT
Young Duncan McClymont was treated to some lessons by his big brother last month and we got to work on his game a couple of weeks ago. He told me that his game was in pretty poor shape and we worked on his weakest area. This was the short game and yes he needed help! We worked on his angle of attack which was far too steep with his wedges. He was taking big divots and having difficulty controlling the loft and launch which lead to some big misses. We used the image of his angle attack being like a V shape from side on, i.e., the club was coming down so sharply into the ground and straight back up. We wanted him to change the attack angle to a more U shape, i.e. the clubhead spending more time in contact with ground. This would be a shallower angle and far better for controlling loft and launch! After 30 minutes, young Duncan was ready to go. One week later he shot a Nett 59 in the Junior medal! Well done Duncan and remember to thank your brother for the lessons!
