It’s Simple

Sometimes we get bogged down in swing thoughts and feelings and to be honest over-coaching. I am a golf coach but to be honest I do not believe in giving too much instruction. Instruction has its place and it is hugely important but getting lesson after lesson does not give a huge improvement. Unless you have every day to practice and play, it's going to be hard to put into practise what you have learnt.

What I like to do is make a player aware of what is affecting their ball flight and how they can influence it. Swing building is not something I would ever advise, why? Well, mainly because the best players on tour all have very different swings. They do have some very important things in common though, none more important than the strike.

It's not always from the perfect centre of the club but it’s pretty close. If you ask them to hit in out the heel, they can, if you ask them to hit it out of the toe, they can and if you ask them to hit it out of the centre they can. They control the strike location so well.

A few weeks ago one of your newer members ‘Stuart Oliver' came to see me with a dose of the shankarooonies. He was not in a good place at all as he found himself shanking most of his iron shots. We set to work in the lab and with 30 minutes he was controlling the strike and this improved the following

• Ball Speed
• Launch
• Distance
• Spin
• Curvature

Controlling the strike point gives you gains gains gains and gets you playing more consistent golf. In Stuart’s case it also gave him:

• Won The Medal With A Nett 62
• Had A Hole In One
• Broke 80 For The First Time
• Had His Handicap Slashed

Golf doesn't have to be complicated, we just do things in a systematic way!
