Jack Emerson Junior Champion
A big well done to young Jack Emerson on winning the 2018 Junior Championship. Jack is a cracking lad with oodles of talent and who is nearly taller than me! He is a regular pick for the Lanarkshire Boys Team and a credit to the club. We'll done Jack!
AERATION WORKS
Essential aeration works to the Greens will be carried out week commencing 27th August. Scarifying and overseeding of the Tees has already begun.
As part of the works the Greens will then be top dressed and rolled to minimise disruption. It is appreciated these works will cause an element of disruption, however it is essential that maintenance of the Greens is carried out on a regular basis. The Course was actually closed for a short while Wednesday morning, 22nd August, following heavy overnight rain. This highlighted the need to carry out these works.
We are often asked the question why are these works carried out at this time of year? The simple answer is to help promote better playing surfaces. We are approaching the end of summer, in six weeks the soil temperatures will fall, so the ability of new seed to germinate and the Course to recover will also drop off. The Greens were overseeded last week, Brian Bolland is already seeing the benefit of the bent grasses coming through. This will result in better grass cover heading into the winter and better surfaces earlier in the new season. As golfers none of us want to see disruption to the Course but aeration works are vital. Failure to carry out such maintenance will result in poorer surfaces and more Course closures.
Please be assured your Green Staff will do everything to minimise the impact of these works.
