Greetings from Graeme Bell
East Kilbride Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Just when you start looking out your spring wardrobe, it starts to snow! The course has been bouncing of late and the only thing bouncing this week was rain, hail and snow off of the ground. The shop windows were so frosted on Saturday I thought I had fallen asleep in my toilet. Thankfully by 11am the temperatures had risen and we had summer greens on again. We are actively trying to get the full greens on as much as we can even when they have been off first thing. If you are in any doubt about the course condition, follow me on Twitter @gbellgolf or just buzz the shop. If you are on twitter do give me a follow and I guarantee your life will never be the same again!

Give your game a boost

addidas boostThe new golf shoe by adidas has landed in the shop and it's a real beauty. It's new sole system gives you the same support you would expect from the adidas boost running shoe and it will leave your foot feeling refreshed after every round. If your foot stays comfortable and relaxed during your round then you can keep transferring energy through the ground into your golf swing. Our two core shoes this year Adidas and Ecco both employ sophisticated technology to make sure your foot is well looked after. Click here to view our full range on our website or why not pop into the shop for a browse or you can even try a pair on!

The new shop layout

I know I have confused you with my constant rearranging of the shop but I am just trying to maximise the amount of space we have, so we can showcase our stock and services to you. We carry a lot of stock and great stock at that. If it is not displayed properly then the shop will look unorganised. I think that we have arrived at much better layout but I will let you all be the judge of that.

Take Care on the practice area!

Last week I highlighted the problem of players not replacing divots on the practice area. This week the gods of divots and turf are not looking after me as I skidded down the embankment to the practice area on my backside. This resulted in perfectly symmetrical brown stripe down my waterproofs which left me feeling rather red faced. I landed on my arm but thankfully no bones were broken and just my ego was dented. In all seriousness, I would try and walk around to a flat area to the right or left hand side of the practice ground to avoid any problems. I didn't let my fall stop my lesson and I carried on to deliver a smashing lesson.

I swing too fast and i didn't keep my head down!

Two of the most common things you will say when you hit a bad shot. How about if I said that I have never seen someone swing too fast or lift their head. I can hear jaws dropping, plates smashing and people sighing in disbelief. I swung too fast on that shot - No, no, no, very few people swing too fast, in fact, people need to swing faster. This is one of the hardest things to do. You may have swung out of balance yes but swinging fast is the Holy Grail ! If you swing slow you will only hit the ball a little distance and playing a golf course will become a slog and you will never get your handicap down. I am not saying swing yourself off your feet but don't just tickle the ball.

I lifted my head- Most people have poor contact with the ball because they keep their heads down too long through the shot. You have to extend your body through the shot to bring the club out of its descent in the down swing. When the body stays down too long, then something has to give and in most cases it's the arms and wrists that start to bend. This makes shots weak and will enhance the chance of topping, thinning and even missing the ball. Have a look at my head down video and the problems it can cause you! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8omlJZJuJgI

May the loft be with you

The Sooper Dooper Golf Machine has been doing a bit of investigatory work this week on wedges. The news my golfing friends is not great. We measured 20 wedges we have on shelves and only 8 were actually the exact loft that was stamped on them. Only 12 of them had the correct lie angle. I hear more jaws dropping but I am afraid that this is very common, so much so that if you look at the small print at the bottom of major club manufacturers websites you will see them mentioning that their specs will very due to tolerances.

Tolerances on clubs can be up to four degrees which is truly awful. We will check the loft of any product we sell you, so you will always get what you pay for. None of our competitors will do this, thats a guarantee! To organise a fitting here at the pro shop click here.

Grip Promotion

The promotion has been going well but please don't think that I am just going to regrip your clubs for the sake of it, No, No, No. We have had many members through the door handing their clubs in but many I have told to put their clubs back in their bags.

Why? Well, because the grips didn't need replaced! I harp on about the ethical way I run my business but it's because I do, just ask Adam Ingram who's grips were absolutely fine! Many times in my life I have been told to 'Get a grip' and now it's your turn. Did you know that having a good grip on your clubs can increase your club head speed by up to 3mph. That could mean 10 yards onto each of your shots without even doing anything! I am offering a great deal on one of my grips. Get 12 clubs re-gripped for only £50 a saving of £46! And have the clubs cleaned up as well! To book a fitting with one of the team please click here.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the newsletter, have a great week. Graeme.
