Sometimes it rains and sometimes it shines, but every week guaranteed I send you a newsletter bursting with interesting chat and a secret insight into the life of a PGA professional. This week I tried my hand at some DIY and tried to mount a TV to a wall. I even prepared myself with an electronic joist finder and a new drill bit. I don't know what the joist finder was beeping at but it wasn't wooden joists as I littered the wall with a hole pattern resembling that of Swiss cheese. My wife at this point had advised me to stop but with testosterone omitted from every pore, I fought on and eventually found the hidden joist behind the wall. I felt as if I had reached the summit of K2 and single-handedly ceased world poverty when the TV rested level on the wall. Hopefully I never have to take the beast off of the wall because it probably will cost about £1000 to repair the damage. It does not matter as the Manometer soared in the Bell household and I may well get out for a couple of pints over the weekend. Next week I plan to put drainage into my garden using 4 sticks of dynamite and a rake! Stay tuned.
NEW CLUB CRESTED APPAREL ARRIVES
The start of the season is here and we have added to our club crested range with some more fantastic polo shirts and 1/4 zip tops. All the cresting is done with tonal colours so the crest is subtle but at the same time classical. I sound as if I should work for QVC don't I? Anyway it really looks great and this weekend we will be offering you an introductory members discount of 10% off all the new range. So pop in and have a look.
FITTING CLUBS THE HONEST WAY
I think that many of you now know that I absolutely love my job and helping people play better golf is my main aim. Not a week goes past with an enquiry into new clubs and my response is always the same, 'I will only sell you new clubs if they will make a difference to you'. I don't carry a huge range of stock clubs and I have absolutely no pressure to sell anything to you. I will only achieve a workable business by getting repeat business and selling you something that will make absolutely no difference will result in unhappy customers who have less money in their wallet or purse.
In the last 2 days I have conducted 2 fittings where one player's 5 year old clubs performed just as well as the most modern technology I could find. I saved him £600 as his clubs were working very well indeed. I did however gain him 2 mph of club head speed by replacing the grips of his clubs which were very worn. Replacing your grips regularly will improve your golf considerably and I can assure you it won't cost £600!!
JILL COWAN BAGS AND ACE
I am a firm believer in karma and I am not talking about my local Indian Restaurant! I am talking about how doing something nice for someone can come back to you 10 fold. Jill is a lovely lady and always smiling and she surprised her husband Alan with a new trolley after his old one gave up the ghost. Then the golfing gods rewarded her with an ace at hole 15! I am not suggesting that buying someone a gift will get you hole in one, it will only happen if the gift is from my shop!!! I am well aware that my marketing needs to improve dramatically! Well done Jill!!
THE WINNERS CIRCLE
Saturdays 'John Chalmers Memorial Trophy' was played in very tricky conditions after a frosty start. It was like going back to November as I opened the curtains and was greeted by Jack Frost. Jack is one my neighbours and what he was doing behind my curtains is beyond me. (saw the joke opportunity and took it, sorry!)
Moving swiftly on, 1st class was conquered by smiling Stuart Fletcher whereas 2nd and 3rd class was championed by 2 halves of the Glasgow Football Divide. Richard Kane won the 2nd class with a nett 69 and Jackson Kerr won the 3rd class with a nett 66! I will not tell you which team they support but one likes green, one likes blue and neither is a Thistle fan. The one thing that they both have in common was that before their rounds on Saturday they both booked a lesson! I am not joking and am now of the opinion that simply by talking to me your golf will improve. I would like to now be known as ' The Golf Whisperer'.
PROFESSIONALS DAY 2015
I have been at Sunny East Kilbride now for 6 months and I can honestly say I have loved every day since arriving. It is great to be at such a fantastic club and I am very fortunate to be your Professional. It is such a busy and thriving club and I am very much looking forward to my Professionals Day on the Saturday 20th June 2015. This will be my first Professionals Day here and I promise it to be filled with fun and great prizes. With it being such a busy club, I do expect to have a very full field and with this in mind, I would like to offer limited guaranteed times to sponsors of the event. This will allow you to make a booking for you and your friends in advance. A normal the time for 4 will cost £40 and the sponsored times will be priced at £65.
The competition will be a 4 ball better ball where the best nett score will be recorded for each hole. We will have fun competitions on the course, live scoring beamed back to the club house and prizes galore. This will be without doubt one of the best days of the year, so please get involved!
I have probably not been shy about letting you know about my custom fitting skills and I do normally charge for my knowledge. However I am running special promotion with a few brands over the coming 2 months that will see me do a fitting and a lesson free when a set of clubs are purchased. I am very busy at present and this will be limited to a first come first serve basis, so please get in touch!
