This week sees the European Tour visit Royal County Down Golf Club in Northern Ireland. I had the pleasure of playing it last year and would say that it is my favourite golf course I have ever played. I even had the pleasure in playing 1 hole with the nicest guy in golf 'David Howell'. I would like to point out that he holed a 15 footer for a half and no I wasn't getting any strokes! If you have a spare 30 minutes check out the course on TV and see what you think.

I would just like to say thank you so much for your support for my Professionals Day. We were inundated with sponsor requests but we only had so many. I am very much looking forward to the day where you will be smashing that little white ball round the course to win the Pros Day Trophy and numerous prizes. There will be prizes for many things and not just the players who lift the trophy. The best dressed golfer will win a great prize and keep an eye out for Green Keepers revenge on the last hole. If you do enjoy an alcoholic refreshment then leave the car at home and get an all day pass.

THE COURSE IS SHAPING UP NICELY

The weather has been absolutely rubbish and by the end of May I have only cut my grass 3 times. I say me but I think my wife may have done it twice! This doesn't change the fact that nothing has been growing and that is bad news for golf courses. However our course has been very resilient this year and has had great reports from members and visitors alike. The course has had a tough season last year but I can report that we have greens that many of our neighbours would love to have. They are rapid so make sure those grooves are clean for this weekend's competition, to maximise spin! Failing that then why not take advantage of my buy one Cleveland Wedge and get the second at half price!

CLUB TEAMS ARE DOING WELL

The gent's team have recorded some wonderful results of late with 2 thumping of their competitors. They dispatched both Bellshill and Bothwell Golf Club by 9 points to 1! There were some new faces in the team and some older ones (not mentioning anyone). Special mention to one of our newest club members 'Grant Bett' who started his team career with a win.

The Ladies team also started very well with a half match against a strong Cathkin Braes team. So well done Ladies!!

KENNY GALLACHER AND ROSS HINSHELWOOD REPRESENT LANARKSHIRE

Two of East Kilbride's low men were representing Lanarkshire recently is the Scottish Area Team Championship at Blairgowrie Golf Course in Perthshire. It is a great honour for the club to have 2 members playing in this team event. If you have ever watched Ross and Kenny strike a ball, they make it look so easy. I know Kenny will think I am being sarcastic but I can assure you I am not. These guys have some serious talent but please note that they put in some serious hours of practice. Well done guys and let's hope you bring back some silverware to the club soon.
