What a difference a week makes! It's all been about the 3 S's this week..
We have witnessed a variety of legs in all shapes, sizes and colours. Some colours would have been more at home in a Duluxe Paint Colour Chart but nonetheless they were all great sights as it meant that we finally had some heat. Garden sheds would have be opened and the great search for the family barbecue would have begun. Even when you finally found your outdoor man fire oven, the stark realisation of cleaning the beast would be staring you in the face. But don't fear as this is what disposable barbecues are all about. They cut out all the hassle! It's not about how big the barbecue is but the sausage you sizzle!
CONDITION OF COURSE
The course as many of you will know is looking great but sometimes looking great is only part of the issue. Many courses may look good but the organic composition of the greens is not so good. What does that mean, well it basically means that they are healthy and have the ability to drain well. Lots of course have a condition known as thatch where the greens have too much organic matter in the root zone. This makes the greens very spongey and makes them prone to disease and stress.
Here at East Kilbride Golf Club we have our greens checked by the Sports Turf Research Institute and the reports are excellent. The greens composition has improved over the last year and the trueness and roll of the greens is near Tour Standard. Yes, there are some bare areas surrounding some of the greens and overseeing and growth from the recent heat will help this immensely. Have a look at this little video showing the agronomist talking about the core sample from the 18th green.
EAST KILBRIDE GENTS TEAM MARCHES ON
I'm just back from fighting off swarms of midges at the back of the 13th green whilst watching the biggest fightback since Rocky 2. The gent's team were playing against Airdrie and looked to get some payback from their opening defeat at Airdrie a few weeks back. After 9 holes most of the games were not looking great but some spirited golf resulted in the boys winning 6-4. The pro shops very own Kieran McVicker fought back from 2 at the turn to win 2 up. Well done guys and keep the good form going.
JUNIOR SUMMER COACHING
We have a keen squad of juniors at East Kilbride and we want to help them reach their potential going forward. We also want to introduce them to golf etiquette and what it is like to be a part of a golf club. The golf club is a great place to be for kids during the summer and being outdoors taking part in exercise is just want they need. It also is a very good for the parents too. So if you would like to register interest in our classes then please drop me a line at eastkilbrideproshop@gmail.com with the child's name, age, ability and contact details.
PROFESSIONALS DAY
It's close, it is very close! The first Graeme Bell Professionals Day is just a week away and I really hope the good weather continues. Last week I asked you to give me a team name and guess what, this week I have decided that is not going to work for our leaderboard. The reason is that nobody will know who's team is who on my leaderboard! So the team names will the second names of each player. Next week I plan to send you out the day's program and itinerary, so stay tuned to your inbox!
Please remember that Professional's Day Entry Fee Due 13th June (Tomorrow!)

JAMES TAYLOR INVITATION 4 BALL
Sunday saw the James Taylor Tournament take place and the weather held firm. It was slightly blowy but when isn't it at East Kilbride. The day went well and the feedback regarding the course was again very complimentary. Our resident raffle master 'Agnes Wilson' tackled everyone who walked through the door and she helped raise a super amount of money for a local charity. The charity I can't remember but I do know it's local. Well done Agnes!
