Weather dominates our lives, golf dominates our lives and therefore weather dominates everything. I only wish I could turn the British Isles upside down and we may get some of the weather that Wimbledon got. They get strawberries and cream whilst we get a flask of soup, a roll and square sausage. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy soup but the weather continues to be the bane of my life.
YOU CAN COUNT ON KENNY
Our ambassador of golf, the right honourable 'Kenny Gallagher ' made a successful defence of his county stroke play Championship here at East Kilbride Golf Club. Kenny was tied with Crow Wood's 'Ed Wood' on 141 after the 2 rounds but managed to take the title on the 5th extra hole. Absolutely outstanding stuff from Kenny and fantastic for the club also. Young Cameron Boomer, fresh from America, won the Youths title and 5 of our home players got through to the knockout Matchplay Championship. Again this is great for the club as a whole and remember to congratulate the guys when you see them. The feedback regarding the course and all the staff at the club was brilliant and the Lanarkshire representatives were suitably impressed. The Matchplay Championship ties are played this week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night. Let's hope for a home winner and please come up to support the boys.
LADIES OPEN TRI AM
The weather tried and tried to break the spirits of the Lady competitors but no they stood firm and battled through the worst of the damp and dreich weather. It is a very popular day within the East Kilbride calendar and a very well supported one. These competitions only work when there are some very hard working people pulling the strings behind the scenes. I really don't want to miss anyone out so I won't go into detail about who exactly is responsible but special mention to Audrey Smith who made such a beautiful arrangement of tombola prizes and flowers. This is Audrey's last year doing this, so well done Audrey and enjoy your retirement!
KIERAN HAS HAD MORE ACES THAN NOVAK DJOKOVIC
Kieran, my charming assistant, has been dealt a great hand of cards when it comes to his golfing ability and he has packed in another ace at East Kilbride Golf Club. He whacked a 2 iron right into the hole on hole 15 last week with a 2 iron, yes some still own such beasts! This was a monstrous strike at the 255 yard hole and Kieran camera shy as usual refused a photo, so I am having to use an old one of him wearing some comedy glasses! Nae luck kid!
I WILL BE POSTED MISSING FOR 7 DAYS
You will not see my happy face running about the club for a week as I am away with the family for a week in sunnier climbs. Do not fear as Kieran and Douglas will be in charge of next week's newsletter, so innuendos and bad chat will be at a minimum. This will only be for a week so expect some much more youthful and hip chat. The fact that I have used the word 'HIP' means that I do indeed need some time off. So hipsters, see you later.
OUR 3 FOR 2 DEAL HAS PROVED VERY, VERY POPULAR
It's not just supermarket giants that can do multi buy offers! I have done some wonderful offers since I started at EKGC last year and my 3 for 2 extravaganza has been super popular. So for THE OPEN week we are continuing the fun. So 3 for 2 on the following:
- 3 FOR 2 ON ALL J LINDEBERG CLOTHING
- 3 FOR 2 ON CLUB CRESTED CLOTHING
- 3 FOR 2 ON ALL LADIES CLOTHING
- 3 FOR 2 ON ALL GOLF GLOVES
- 3 FOR 2 ON ALL HATS
REMEMBER TO SPEND YOU WINNINGS FROM PROS DAY
Just a little reminder that you will need to spend your 'No lose gamble money' from hitting or even missing the green at the 10th on Pros Day. You've got 3 months to spend it and with all the offers I am doing, now is a great time to do it!
THE OPEN, IT'S HERE, IT'S HERE!
There are only a few things on the planet that can get you more excited than The Open can but my newsletter is not a place to discuss them. The Open is the biggest golfing show on earth and we all love it. Our wonderful climate reduces the strongest of foreign players to whimpering mound of jelly or jello depending where they are from. It is the one they all want to win and the trophy we all dream about lifting.
The Claret Jug has been held over the years by some magnificent men and their golfing machines. Their scores go up diddly up up, there scores go down diddly down!
Poetry over, don't worry.
So who will tame the home of golf, will it be Speith? I think Dustin Johnson's time may well have arrived or even East Kilbride's chosen son 'Marc Warren' will do us proud. Whoever it will be, we will all wish it was us and this dreaming keeps us all going through the good times and the bad. Long live the Open!
