What an absolute gorgeous week of weather, and after a few days at the trade show WORKING, I popped on my private jet over to the Isle of Arran. By private jet, I do mean the ferry and what an event that was. I like to be on time for things and my wife, well she likes make up her own times and I like every husband, fall in line. I wanted to leave at 10.50am to be in at Ardrossan well before the mandatory 30 minutes before sailing stipulation. Hilary said "no no no" we shall leave at 11am and we will get there in plenty of time.
Yes we would have been there in plenty of time if we had indeed left at 11am. However we left at 11.15am and had to visit two shops in the search for very special baby milk. Milk only found on the mainland and not in the two supermarkets on Arran! When I did explain to Hilary that I was almost positive that there were babies on Arran and that the World's Number 1, not 2 producer of baby milk would be found there, I was told let's make sure we have it. I at the same time was thinking, "Let's be sure that we actually get there".
So yes you guessed it, we arrived late and were told that not only that ferry but the other ferries on that day were indeed full. It wasn't for my tears and the fact the women thought I was 'Jimmy Carr', we would have never been allowed on board the good ship Lollipop.
We did make it to the sunshine Isle of Arran and the weather was amazing. We did everything from making soap, yes making soap, to Crab fishing. It was lovely to spend some time away with my family and Kieran and the boys kept my own ship afloat. Well done boys.
Scotland Were Robbed
I honestly can't say that I have ever been interested in Rugby in the slightest. However on Sunday I was jumping up and down during the game against Australia. Scotland were amazing and were completely robbed by one of the worst referees I have ever witnessed in any sport. He was atrocious and that was with the benefit of reviewing incidents throughout the game. He obviously had Australia on his coupon!
Wear The East Kilbride Crest With Pride
Gone are the days of having a massive bowling blazer badge on the front of your sweater, and arrived are the days of wearing your club crest in a more fashionable manner. This week we added to our vast array of stock some wonderful club crested Under Armour 1/4 zip jumpers. These jumpers are made by Under Armour and therefore they are not just jumpers, they are so much more.
- UA Storm technology repels water without sacrificing breathability
- Lightweight Heathered fleece with a soft, warm, brushed inner layer
- Ribbed sides for greater mobility
We also have taken delivery of the Under Armour winter golf trousers which again are just oozing with technology, quality and style. These are so warm and have a storm coating which repels water, meaning you don't even have to put on your waterproof's. They look just like normal trousers but give you so much more!
They were so popular, we had sold half of them before we put them out on display!

Junior Winter Coaching
Our Winter Junior Coaching program will start again on Tuesday, 3 November and run for 6 weeks. This year we will be holding it at Mearns Castle Driving Range. There we will have access to the private corporate range bays from 5pm -7pm.
The 5-6pm class will be for the under 12's, and the 6-7pm class will be for the over 12's. The range is not as close as Playsport, but I do feel that at this time 'Mearns Castle Driving range' provides us with the best facility.
This coaching is FREE to all Junior Members of East Kilbride Golf Club and all that they need to pay for is the balls they hit. This will cost £5.
Due to the popularity of this program and the limited number of places, we will need you to register your interest straight away. It really is on a first come first serve basis so please click here to get in touch with the following details:
- Parent/Guardian Name, Email and contact number
- Childs name

For Fogs Sake
Sometimes I can't see my hand in front of my face, but usually when I've been drinking with Stewart Wilson and sampling his famous Brandy & Baileys cocktails. But sadly this time is was due to the EK Fog! The fog was thicker than the average 'Jeremy Kyle' guest and just as unwelcome as it played havoc throughout the week.
We managed to cope during the week but on Saturday we had no choice but to abandon the Closing Day Trophy. We sounded the klaxon to signal everyone to stop play and wait to see if it cleared. If it had cleared we would have sounded two blasts of the horn for play to continue. This is for safety reasons but unfortunately a few carried on after the first blast. We really don't want to stop your golf but please remember that your safety and that of others is more important.
