The winter hit hard at the weekend with some serious downpours of water from the sky. There was 18mm of rain overnight but the course remained open for play when the sun appeared. We did have to put the second onto a temporary green due the burn bursting its banks, but 'The South Lanarkshire Sieve' stayed strong and we got all our golfers playing! Many courses in the area were not open and were on far more winter greens than us!

  

 

A Big Welcome To Our New Members 

We have welcomed some new members to the club over the last few weeks and I have met many of you already. Some may be reading this without having met me and I can assure you that I am just as mad in real life. I do these newsletters to give everyone an insight into the club's daily happenings and a little sneak preview into the life of a golf pro.

Kieran Wins The Prestigious Green Jacket

The 'Green Jacket' Competition has some wonderful history with past winners such as Kenny Gallacher, Stewart Wilson, Ronnie Neil, Robert Barnes and Alan Kennedy. There is even a book in the locker room with a picture of each winner dressed in the famous garment. 

Now I could be wrong (I know I'm not though) that Kieran is the first Junior ever to win it! Kieran is a wonderful golfer and the pro shop team are very proud of him. I would like to get 50% of the credit as I let him out most Saturday's to play in the qualifying medals. I would therefore like to ask the competition committee to engrave the trophy or embroider the jacket with 'Kieran Bell'.


 

Douglas Boomer Says Farewell To The Pro Shop 

Young Douglas Boomer has left the shop to take up another full time job. 

Douglas has been a great help to me throughout the season, and I would like to thank him for this. 

Douglas is an absolutely super chap with an absolute wonderful head of hair and a haircut to match. 

His retail skills were immense and I will need to do some studying to keep the shop looking good.


 

TaylorMade M1 Ftting Event 

I see products come and go, but this one I am very excited about! I don't believe the hype about anything unless I see it in action. Last week I went to the range with my friend's dad and we tested his current PING driver against the new TaylorMade M1. I was not expecting much at all but we witnessed a ridiculous increase in ball speed. The best ball speed we achieved from the PING was 10mph less than the M1 which equated to nearly 20 yards in distance gain! This was staggering! 

We are holding fitting event at 'Broadlees Driving Range' on Wednesday, 11 November from 2pm-6pm where you can try out this new technology for FREE and see if it is worth investing in. We will have left hand, ladies, right hand and a huge range of shafts and lofts. There will be fairways, rescues and the new PSi iron range.
